Sea Girt In August: How A Small Town's Calendar Actually Works This Month

If you have lived on The Plaza or off Beacon Boulevard for more than a summer, you already know the trick to August in Sea Girt is not finding something to do. It is timing. The town's late-summer calendar is oddly front-loaded, with a cluster of anchor events landing on and around the first weekend, then settling into a quieter rhythm of Sunday tours, Tuesday library gatherings, and one standout Tuesday dinner mid-month. Read the shape of the month and you spend less time in traffic on Sea Girt Avenue and more time on your own porch.

This is a guide for the people who already live here. No beach badge primer, no "what to know before you visit." Just the specific things opening, reopening, and running through the end of August 2026, and how they fit together.

The August 1 Pileup

Three separate anchor events land on Saturday, August 1. If you have out-of-town family staying with you, this is the day to plan around.

The morning belongs to the 35th Annual Sea Girt 5K, held Saturday, August 1, 2026, benefiting Sea Girt Recreation and the Jersey Shore Dream Center. The 5K itself has sold out, but the kids' races at 10:00 AM and the accompanying activities remain open. The course loops through town from the tents at the Sea Girt Library on The Plaza, which means Ocean Avenue and the residential streets near the beachfront will be closed or congested from roughly 8:00 to 11:00. If you are not running, plan errands north of Sea Girt Avenue or south toward Brielle Road.

The afternoon reopens the Lighthouse. The Sea Girt Lighthouse has been temporarily closed for repair until August 1, which lines up with the resumption of its regular schedule of Sunday tours from 2 to 4 PM, running through November 22, 2026. The building at 9 Ocean Avenue has been closed to walk-ins for weeks, so the first Sunday back tends to draw the neighborhood in a way midsummer Sundays do not.

The evening belongs to the Lighthouse's fundraiser. The Signing of the Lease Lawn Party runs Saturday, August 1 from 6 to 8 PM, with tickets at $100 each, payable by check to SGLCC at PO Box 83, Sea Girt, NJ 08750. It is the Sea Girt Lighthouse Citizens Committee's main summer fundraiser, and given that the committee holds a twenty-five year lease at $1 per year and self-funds restoration work, the ticket price is essentially the maintenance budget for the building most residents drive past every day.

Sundays Become The Spine Of The Month

Once the first weekend clears, the town's calendar rearranges itself around Sundays. This is the pattern worth learning.

The Lighthouse holds its Sunday 2 to 4 PM tour window through November 22, closed on Labor Day, September 6. So you have Sundays August 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 all in play this month. If you have never actually gone inside, the exhibits include a rare Fresnel lens similar to Sea Girt's original fourth-order lens and two Morro Castle lifejackets, with photos, news clippings, letters and other artifacts documenting the Morro Castle drama. The Morro Castle wreckage washed up in Asbury Park in 1934, and the Sea Girt keepers were among the first responders. It is a specifically local story told inside a specifically local building.

Parker House brings breakfast back on Sundays. Breakfast is back for the 2026 season, every Sunday from 8 AM to 11:30 AM at Parker House. The location at the corner of Beacon Boulevard and First Avenue, a block from the Atlantic, gives you the option of walking there straight from a beach morning rather than driving into the crowd that shows up for dinner service. Sunday morning is the version of Parker House most residents actually enjoy.

Stack those two and you have a full Sunday without a car: breakfast at Parker House at 9, walk home along the ocean, then the 2 PM Lighthouse tour a few blocks inland.

The Mid-Week Shape

If Sundays are the spine, the mid-week rhythm is thinner but more interesting than most residents give it credit for.

The Sea Girt Library on The Plaza runs its full August program calendar. Confirmed August 2026 sessions include a book club discussion on Monday, August 10 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, a children's music class on Thursday, August 13 from 10:30 to 11:00 AM, with registration required, and the morning book club on Wednesday, August 19 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. A few sessions require registration through the library, so it is worth checking a day or two ahead. These are the closest thing Sea Girt has to a genuine year-round community program, and they run whether the summer people are around or not.

The one mid-month evening worth putting on the calendar is at Parker House. Their summer wine dinner series runs a carefully curated five-course dinner with hand-selected wine pairings on Tuesday, August 18, with limited seating and reservations required. Two Tuesdays earlier in the season have already come and gone. This is the last one before the season winds down after Labor Day.

The Food Story Nobody Has Adjusted To Yet

The most recent addition to the year-round Sea Girt food scene sits in the shopping plaza most residents pass without a second thought. A new fast-casual Middle Eastern restaurant called NAYA opened in the Brook 35 shopping plaza in Sea Girt, offering fully customizable bowls, salads, and wraps with a variety of proteins, grains, and 17 different toppings, including falafel, chicken, and braised beef shawarma. NAYA officially opened its doors on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, which means a lot of seasonal residents have not yet cycled through it. Reviewers note it is located next door to the Chipotle, sort of hidden in a corner of the plaza, which explains why it took a while to show up on the neighborhood radar.

For the record, the rest of the year-round Sea Girt roster remains what it has been: Scarborough Fair inland on Sea Girt Avenue, Fratello's for Italian, and Parker House for the front porch. But NAYA is the first new fast-casual to land at Brook 35 in a while, and it changes what a weeknight dinner on the way home from Route 35 looks like.

A useful test for August in a town this small: if you can name three things you plan to do this month that require no reservation and no driving, you are living here the right way.

A Walking Loop To Try This Month

Because everything sits within about a mile, an August afternoon in Sea Girt does not require a plan so much as a sequence. One version worth trying, ideally on a Sunday:

• Start at 9 Ocean Avenue for a Lighthouse tour between 2 and 4 PM
• Walk south along Ocean Avenue toward Beacon Boulevard
• Stop at Parker House for a drink on the wraparound porch, where you can sip a cocktail and feast on fresh local seafood as the sun sets, or bite into their mini burgers on the back-porch raw bar
• Cut inland on Beacon and end at the Plaza to check what the library has on the following week's calendar

That is the entire day, and it uses four separate community institutions without repeating a block.

What August Tells You About The Rest Of The Year

The reason to pay attention to the shape of Sea Girt in August is that it previews the shape of Sea Girt in October and November. The Lighthouse Sundays continue through Thanksgiving. The library keeps its weekly program cadence. Parker House scales back but hosts weddings and private parties through September and October. The seasonal residents leave, the traffic on Ocean Avenue thins, and what remains is a town that runs on volunteer boards, a lease-for-a-dollar historic building, and a handful of family-run restaurants a block from the water. August is when you can see all of it operating at once.
